Touch Goes West
The WTA are delighted to confirm the launch of a new Touch league in Camarthen for this coming summer.

The league is being run by Camarthenshire Councty Council’s Sports Development unit and will be held at Ysgol Gyfun Y Strade. For directions click here
Both male and female players of any standard will be welcome to play. From those who have never picked up a rugby ball before to experienced rugby and Touch players.
The season will run from early May until the end of July. Before the season starts the organisers are running a couple of events to help players and referees prepare:
Event: Level 1 Referees Course
Date: 28th March 2010 1-4pm
Venue: Indoor Training Barn at Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli
The course will be delivered by the WTA’s Refereeing Co-Ordinator and is open to anyone wishing to get involved in refereeing Touch.
Event: Try Touch
Date: 22nd April 2010 6.30-8.30pm
Venue: Ysgol Gyfun Y Strade
The session will be open to anyone wanting to try Touch either as a team or an individual. The session will be attended by players and coaches from the Wales National Squad who will be on hand to offer help and advice. The session will include demonstration games, a review of the rules, coaching and practice games.

The WTA is co-hosting a Level 1 Coaching course this summer in conjunction with the English Touch Association. The course will be delivered by Dennis Coffey, Director of Coaching from Touch Football Australia and one of the best Touch coaches in the world.
The Level 1 course is open to anyone and is primarily aimed at those undertaking coaching roles with existing and established Touch club teams, or new and existing players wishing to gain a better understanding of the sport of Touch.
Date: 15-16th May 2010
Venue: Bristol (TBC)
Cost: Approx £80 (exact cost TBC)

The format includes both indoor workshop seminars and practical outdoor sessions. Topics covered will include the role of the coach, individual & team skills, rules of Touch, fitness, sports safety & injuries, the junior athlete, session & programme planning, game sense and practical observations & assessments.

After taking the course participants will be accredited to level 1. This accreditation isfully recognised by theinternational coaching community.

Interested participants will have successfully completed the Level 1 course before attending the Level 2 course, and will have been actively coaching during the previous 6 months. The course is primarily aimed at those seeking to develop their coaching skills and undetake coaching roles for representative teams.

The course involves 18 hours coursework delivered in a workshop over an extended weekend, together with 15-25 hours of home study in advance of the workshop. Topics covered will include Functional Anatomy, Principles of Training, Speed, Strength, Flexibility and Power Training, Growth and Development of Touch Players, Sports Medicine, Advanced Individual & Sub Unit Skills, Analysis of Individuals, Tactics and Set Plays.
